Surviving Last Year of High School as an Indonesian. 0
Let's just say I'm the worst blogger ever haha. My last post was at the end of 2012 and here we are now in the early 2015. It had been 2 years since I blogged mostly because I'm busy studying and also I'm kinda 'lazy' writing on this blog.First of all I'm going to start with the major change in my life and that is I'm now a college student :) my field is ocean engineering and I'm currently on a 1-month holiday after finishing my first semester on campus (yes, I'm a freshman). Basically, college is 180° different from high school on every aspects, but it's not much of a struggle because it's a public institute and I had studied in public high school too. But it doesn't change my opinion about it being different from high school because now, you live on your own. And living alone was the one I have to adapt for the rest of college. So I was wondering maybe I could give some tips on how to get in your favorite university (Indonesian ones), because in the next 6-7 months all 12th graders are going to experience the same thing I had been through. Let's start!
Get Into Your Favorite PTN/Public University (Indonesian)
1. Don't choose the best university, but choose the best major that you like.
For example, you're into art and design so try searching for ISI (Institut Seni Indonesia) or FSRD ITB or Despro ITS. Those are what I could think of. Or if you want to be a doctor, I think Kedokteran UI is the best in Indonesia, or is it UGM? Haha I'm sorry I'm not into medical but you could always search right?
2. Discuss with your parents.
Don't apply to your favorite major without telling your parents. They might have some advice on choosing the best for you and they're the one who are going to pay for your college right? If you don't like what your parents are choosing for you then tell them why and be honest of what you feel.
3. SNMPTN
You are given 3 options on SNMPTN and usually the third one is the 'accessory'. By accessory I mean just a tiny percent of students are accepted on the third option. So, don't bother thinking on the third major you're going to choose, but only choose your favorite two majors and put them according to your interest and your student report grades. And when the announcement day come you must PREPARED of ANYTHING that will happen. If you are accepted on the second option, don't be sad and don't try for SBMPTN. Because there are a LOT of other students that aren't accepted on SNMPTN and you should be thankful for it. And please, please, please don't have high expectation on SNMPTN okay?
4. SBMPTN
Don't be sad. Don't grief. You still have time to study. Prepare studying right after UNAS/UAN 'buat jaga-jaga'. SNMPTN isn't everything. In fact, students that are accepted from SBMPTN are usually the smartest ones on campus. Try to study everyday and have a break on weekends, just like school days. Go to SBMPTN courses, take Try Outs, learn everything like you're so passionate about it because it's going to change your life. I'm not lying here, IT IS going to. Sacrifice your play time to do as much exercises you could. Don't think about anything else, not even your love life. I know it's going to be hard, but believe me it's not the hardest thing in your life once you experienced college. Study like you'd die if you didn't. I know it because I flunked SBMPTN. And that moment was probably the worst thing that ever happened to me. I cried for 2 days. I was thinking of cutting myself because I failed too much, I didn't make my parents proud of me. My mom was crying too. And...yes, that was the saddest part of this.
5. Pray
If you feel tired about all of this, just have 5 minutes or maybe less to talk to God. Ask Him to guide you because whatever plans you have, God always have better plans for you. Trust Him. After SBMPTN announcement, I prayed every single night regretting all the things I had done. I regret all of them. But God is a savior, I got accepted through PKM (Program Kemitraan & Mandiri) in the major I'm studying now. It was actually my dad's choice and I'm still thankful until now that my dad chose it.
